A Concert in Celebration of Black History Month

St. Stephen’s is honored to have guest performances by acclaimed soprano Chanáe Curtis and baritone Caleb Wright, who will join Music Minister Dr. Alcee Chriss III in a concert to celebrate Black History Month on Sunday, February 28th.

The performances will take place in our Sanctuary and will be available via live stream (only) at 5pm. Tickets are available now from Eventbrite: https://st-stephens-blackhistoryconcert.eventbrite.com/

This concert highlights the contributions of black musicians and composers, and will feature rarely heard classical works by such African American composers as Rashaan Allwood, Harry Burleigh, David Hurd, Samuel-Coleridge Taylor, among others.

This event will be both a musically and spiritually fulfilling experience. Chanae Curtis has sung at the Metropolitan Opera company and will engage people of all ages and backgrounds. The versatile voice of Mr. Wright easily transitions between operatic and popular styles.

This concert will feature a variety of musical styles that are reflected in the African American heritage. Organ and piano works will intersperse sacred vocal works and spiritual arrangements, many of which were conceived by living African American composers.
